Fish Portraits
Fish portraits are wood carvings of the profile of your catch, on a wood panel. Portraits are 'half' fish aka 'European-style mounts' and are an economical way to preserve the memory of your fish (pricing is comparable to taxidermy replicas). Lettering is in addition to the cost of the fish portrait, and can be hand painted or carved in to the wood panel, or a brass plate with engraved lettering can be attached. We typically use Alaskan white spruce or mahogany for the wood panel, however, exotics such as bloodwood, lacewood, etc. or typical American soft or hardwood species and even weathered or antiqued panels are an option, at an additional cost. All of our carvings are guaranteed to the original purchaser. All fish portraits are wood carvings, with fully carved scales, fins, and even open mouths or gills, if preferred (new for 2009). A carving is the ideal way for a catch and release angler to preserve the memory of their trophy, something not possible with a replica mount. We do reserve the right to some artistic license in the goal of creating a piece of art to last a lifetime, while maintaining the general dimensions, shape and coloration of your fish. A wood carving is a high quality work of art. Pricing below is for salmonids only: any species of trout, char, grayling or salmon. Fish Portrait Commission Price List Use the 'Pay Now' button to place your 50% deposit for the appropriate size fish portrait you would like to commission. After placing deposit, please email us at Sales@ReelTrout.com to start the commission process. Please note the species of fish and size (length and girth if known). A time frame for completion will be given at that time, depending on our work load at time of order. If you have a digital photograph (s) of your catch, please feel free to attach them in your email. All shipping & handling is included to anywhere in the US (all 50 states) and can be quoted for shipping to other countries. Fish Portraits are created as a custom item (one of a kind) for a specific client, and thus are often more difficult to resell if the client does not complete the purchase (rare, but it has happened). For this reason, Reel Trout Studio Inc. requires a minimum deposit, with the remainder paid upon pick up or prior to delivery (shipping). All carvings and bases are well protected and boxed or crated for shipping. We often prefer to make our own crates to best protect the carving. At times, we will use a 'Fresh Alaska Seafood' sturdy waxed box, if suitable. Because we pride ourselves in our work and always want happy and satisfied clients, we are willing to work to create the exact piece of art the client is looking for, within reason, and with the understanding that if the client is asking for additional work beyond the original quoted scope of work, there may be additional charges. An example of added charges would be (but not limited to) changing the wood panel, lettering, changing the facing direction of the fish or adding components not originally discussed or even starting over on the carving. Deposits of work not started or quoted may have a 10% processing fee. If any work has begun (concept sketches, patterns, or actual carving of the fish), then the deposit may be non refundable. Reel Trout Studio Inc. reserves the right to waive additional charges and/or deposits or this policy at our discretion.
